Hi, since i don't have much experience with UPS's (uninterruptible power supply) i'm not quite sure of what to do here.

I have one of this devices, but even after charged, when i plug the pc on it beeps constantly. This is a problem, since in my home, the electrical load it can handel is pretty low, so, from time to time, my wife forgets about this, and turns on 500 equipments at the same time, shutting down everything. I'm worried about the power source of my desktop, so i want this UPS thingy to work. Any thoughts?

Too much power draw?

UPS devices are rated at certain loads - if your computer draws too much then it won't provide sufficient protection when your power goes.

What is the power rating of your UPS? What is the power rating of your PC? (Yes, I know... the actual DRAW from a computer's PSU is far, far lower than the rating of the PSU but you have to start somewhere - unless you happen to have a power meter sitting around somewhere).

Either that, or the batteries in the UPS are dead. Once plugged in the UPS needs to remain charged up - a lot of the APC ones that we used at work temporarily were switched off for a year and when we tried to use them again wouldn't even switch on!).

They're the two most likely causes.

I tried a few months back then quit, but like i said, since my wife keeps on turning all the machines at once, the pc is assaulted with powersurges quite a bit. This afternoon i tried to connect it to the power outlet, kept it a few hours to do all the testing...and it happen what you said Ewan :s DOA... :(

Think i'm going to open it up to see what gives.
