Although the file appears to be in JPEG (image) format, that link could have been to another file format. I expect these virus makers are finding new ways to redirect you to a malicious piece of code, even though the link you click on seems to be a harmless image file. I believe there was some virus relating to a seemingly harmless image file, which actually caused the user to download a piece of malicious code :?

Also note that any file you are linked to or download from IRC could have "2" file extensions. Windows, by default, hides known file extensions. For example "****.jpg.exe", which is an executable program, would be shown as "****.jpg" which people may mistake for a harmless image file. It is the last extension that counts.

Yeah and it doesnt even have to be in the extension. In this case they change the http headers to a wsz (winamp skin type) and so will IE execute it with winamp. Because winamp skin handler can be exploited the virus is loaded in your system.

Perhaps I'll stick with Windows Media Player for now :?
